The program is appropriate
for individuals who are interested in being an active participant
in changes toward health and a greater sense of well being.
The course requires, however, that there be a willingness
to invest time and effort toward these goals.
This eight-week course is modeled after the stress reduction
program developed by Jon Kabat-Zjnn at the University of
Massachusetts Medical Center.
This evidence-based, systematic approach to coping with stress
develops new kinds of control based on our innate capacities
for attention and self-regulation.
Persons experiencing stress, chronic disease, panic, anxiety,
pain, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, high blood pressure,
trauma, stroke, cancer as well as other acute and chronic
medical conditions may find it to be a powerful compliment
to medical management.
It is also useful for persons in need of stress reduction in
relationships, parenting, family, and work.

Mindfulness is the cultivation
of attention to our moment-to-moment experience. The course uses this
technique, as incorporated in movement and meditative practices, to strengthen our ability to respond
more consciously and skillfully to tension and stress, bringing greater relaxation and self-acceptance.
The program is 8 weeks in duration, meeting 2.5 hours per week, with one all-day session following
the 6th week. Sessions typically include discussion and sharing as well as instruction and practice of
specific techniques.
The course requires a commitment to at least 45 minutes of practice at home daily.
If you make and keep the commitment, you will exit the course with skills, a workbook, audiotapes, text,
and most significantly, a new perspective on your life.
